Online banking isn't new, but one bank has elevated the concept to a new level: online banking has taken to the highway.
This week, National InterBank announced that it has adapted its Internet-based banking service for big-rig truck drivers who want to access their accounts while actually sitting in the cab of their trucks (but presumably not while they're driving...).
Banks and lending institutions have discovered that truck drivers represent a niche market to which services may be targeted. Ronald Hynes, vice president of strategic partnerships at National InterBank said truck drivers are ideal candidates for online banking because they spend so much time away from home and can't necessarily get to a branch of their own bank.
Banks are discovering that they can expand their services by pursuing industry specific liaisons such as the relationship with truck drivers and other affiliations with particular groups and industry segments.
