Veronica "Nikki" Ruiz, 25, a criminal investigator for the IRS, has been missing in the mountains outside of Mill Valley, California since December 3.
Family, friends, and co-workers refuse to give up the search for the missing agent, and have now enlisted the aid of a psychic. Jeffrey Baker, a Colorado-based empath and spiritual healer, thus far has been unable to pinpoint the location of Ruiz, believed to be lost in the Mt. Tamalpais region.
"There are more than 25,000 acres," said Baker. "That's not a small area."
Ruiz's mother, Erlinda Ruiz, contacted Baker after seeing him on Lifetime television channel's program, "America's Psychic Channel."
According to San Francisco Fox affiliate KTVU, the psychic claims that he has communicated with Ruiz and that she has told him she is dead. Baker said he speaks with Ruiz during meditation and prayer sessions with the family. He said he "has feelings" on how she died, but Ruiz's family has asked him not to reveal the details of his conversations with her.
The Mill Valley Police Department suspended the search for Ruiz two days after she was reported missing, but people close to her have continued searching.
The Redwood City Daily News has reported that police indicated there was a sense of finality to messages sent by Ruiz just before she disappeared. "She texted friends and colleagues, saying that they've been good friends to (her), and to her sister, to take care of the family," said Mill Valley Police Department Sgt. Dean Loutas.
Ruiz works for the San Rafael office of the Internal Revenue Service, is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, and worked at the tax and audit firm KPMG before joining the federal tax agency, according to The San Francisco Chronicle.
Another search party plans to continue the hunt for Ruiz this weekend.
