Thomas P. Ochsenschlager will join the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as Vice President- Taxation, it was announced by the AICPA last week.
In this role, he will work with the Tax Executive Committee in developing AICPA tax policy positions, shaping and communicating the Institute’s initiatives in tax matters, and providing tax products and services for members. He will also be responsible for interaction with the federal government on tax-related issues, acting as a liaison with the national office of the Internal Revenue Service and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Treasury for Tax Policy, and working closely with Congressional tax committees on tax-related issues. Other responsibilities include tax relations with State CPA Societies and helping guide the work of AICPA volunteer committees, technical resource panels and the Tax Division’s professional staff.
Mr. Ochsenschlager is currently a member of the Tax Executive Committee of the AICPA and is an editor of the Tax Clinic column in The Tax Adviser, the primary tax publication of the AICPA.
Mr. Ochsenschlager will report directly to Alan Anderson, Senior Vice President- Member and Public Interests. “Tom brings a vast and extensive background with more than 30 years of experience in tax-related matters. His formidable knowledge will be a critical component of contributing to the AICPA’s current and future positions on tax issues,” said Mr. Anderson. Mr. Ochsenschlager succeeds Gerry Padwe, Vice President- Taxation at the AICPA, who recently retired.
Prior to the AICPA, Mr. Ochsenschlager was a partner with Grant Thornton, LLP, in Washington D.C., where he served as a liaison between the firm’s offices nationwide and the national office of the Internal Revenue Service. At Grant Thornton, he was also responsible for tracking Federal tax legislative developments. Prior to Grant Thornton, Mr. Ochsenschlager served at Arthur Young in its Washington, D.C., tax practice.
He is a national lecturer on current tax developments and has spoken at the Northwest Tax Conference, the University of Denver Tax Institute, the Great Plains Tax Institute, the Kansas Tax Conference, the Heart of America Tax Conference, and the Oklahoma Tax Institute. Mr. Ochsenschlager has been named by Accounting Today magazine for four consecutive years as one of the 100 most influential accountants, and is a member of the AICPA. He is also a member of the Virginia Bar Association.
Mr. Ochsenschlager holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Dartmouth College, a law degree from the University of Virginia, and a Masters in Law from Georgetown University. He received his BA degree from Wabash College.
