The National Taxpayers Union (NTU) has compiled a database of all of the taxpayers who are due rebates and refunds from the IRS. This is the first time a free searchable database has been available within hours of the IRS's release of the information.
Undeliverable income tax refund checks and rebate checks have added up to nearly 400,000 payments, waiting to be collected. Some checks are undeliverable because taxpayers provide an incomplete address on their tax documents, others wait to be delivered because taxpayers have moved or changed their names and have failed to advise the IRS.
With this search service, you can search by name and state and find out if a check is being held for you. Then you can contact the IRS at 800-829-1040 to learn how to claim your check.
"Every taxpayer should get the tax refund or advance payment rebate they've earned," said NTU President John Berthoud. "Our online rebate and refund finder at www.ntu.org can help."
You can view a table that shows the number of checks being held on a state-by-state basis.
The 335,000-member National Taxpayers Union was founded in 1969 to work for lower taxes, the elimination of wasteful government spending, and more accountability from elected officials.
