Alabama accounting firms merge

Birmingham, AL-based CPA firm, Lovoy Summerville & Shelton, has acquired Granberry & Associates based in the Auburn-Opelika area. The combined firm will have 25 employees to serve more than 800 clients along U.S. 280 between the two cities, said Donald Howell, shareholder and partner of the firm. "Now with two offices together, we can bring more specialized people in to offer more services," he said.

Grant Thornton International announces merger

David McDonnell, chief executive officer of Grant Thornton International has announced the merger between Grant Thornton's Irish member firm and RSM Robson Rhodes in Ireland, which follows on from the merger of Grant Thornton UK LLP and the UK division of RSM Robson Rhodes LLP. The merger creates a firm with the depth of resource, expert capability and market credibility to make it the leader in its chosen marketplaces. The new organization will now operate as Grant Thornton Ireland, as the merger was completed on 1 July 2007.

The regulation leading from the Act is fueling a merger of accounting firms, the San Francisco Business Times reports.Two of the accounting firms merging are the San Francisco firm Shea Labagh Dobberstein and San Mateo firm Elwood Espina Ferrell. A New York accounting and financial services firm acquired a Long Island competitor in November.Janover Rubinroit, LLC, of Garden City has incorporated Gilbert & Levy from nearby Baldwin into its practice. Gilbert & Levy's entire staff moved to Janover Rubinroit's main office in Garden City and will operate under that company name. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.The purchase of Gilbert & Levy follows Janover's 2004 acquisition of a two-partner firm in New York City.
