Editor's Note
Bill Grabarek, Assistant Managing Editor Attracting the best and brightest students, especially those from diverse minority groups, always has been an issue for the accounting industry. A growing number of accounting firms and associations, however, are stepping up to the challenge.

For example, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young, and Deloitte recently have joined 100 corporations and foundations as participants in Change the Equation, a new effort to cultivate widespread literacy in science, technology, engineering, and math. Other endeavors include improving accounting students' ability to write -- a skill tested on the CPA exam and required by most employers.

The goals of such initiatives are to get more students interested in math, help them become accountants, and then assist them throughout their accounting careers. The underlying theme here is this: We might have graduated and passed the test, but we're never done learning.
