Looking ahead to 2012, many employers claim they need to hire, but only 10 percent are planning on actually doing so. This was one of the findings of the AICPA's fourth quarter Business and Industry Economic Outlook Survey. Other findings included guarded optimism in the tech sector and improvement in manufacturing and homebuilding. Check out the survey results.

Business leaders remain pessimistic about growth in the US economy in the next three months. AICPA webcast panelists expressed a range of views in a spirited discussion and invited comments on current political as well as economic issues.
NC State University Students Win AICPA National Accounting Competition
On December 17, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) named seventeen students from North Carolina State University winners of the AICPA National Accounting Competition. The case competition focused on a fictional Texas company looking to expand its business into the Nigerian oil fields.
Small Firms Can Capitalize on Their Size to Compete with Big Regionals
A survey conducted by the Public Affairs Council shows that 90 percent of the 1,753 adult participants have a "somewhat or very favorable view" of small businesses, versus 61 percent who feel that way about major companies.
