Publisher's Note
Rob Nance, Publisher Do you reside in a state where medical marijuana is legal? There are now 14 states (plus Washington, D.C.) where this is law. Some employers are choosing to ignore the state laws regarding marijuana prescribed by physicians, opting to follow federal policies instead. Employees who have been terminated from their jobs for positive marijuana tests – despite living in states where such use is legally permissible under their state law – are crying “Foul!” I’m not a marijuana user, but I don’t blame them. Home Depot, Walmart, and many other recognizable employers are bypassing state laws and canning these cannabis users.

What about accounting firms? If you are in a state like Michigan, Colorado, or Montana and the accountant down the hall from you was known to puff pot at home because of an ailment that required a doctor’s prescription, what would happen to that accountant? Would your firm’s/company’s management care? State your opinion. It’s a hot topic and AccountingWEB readers want to know what you think. You can even do so anonymously.
