The Challenge of Change

My last blog post was on Creating Business Vision. It got me thinking that you can’t make the vision a reality until you deal with change. Change can be good and it can be bad. If bad stuff is happening than you have to figure out what needs to be done to counteract it. These challenges relate to both business and personal situations.

Taxes for Lovers

With Valentines Day coming up, let's explore the theme of just how romantic income taxes can be - or how it can totally bust up relationships!

Being a TaxNerd , I must admit that before Rick and I got married, we checked to see the tax advantages of getting married before or after midnight on New Year's Eve. We opted for first thing on New Year's Day - and arrived in Las Vegas at dawn to start our new life together.

Why? Rick could still file his tax return early in January as Single for the previous year - and get his heft refund immediately.

The U.S. Tax Court in Boston ruled in favor of a plaintiff who claimed approximately $5,000 in medical deductions for expenses relating to her sex-change operation. The court ruled last week that the treatment she received stemmed from a disease and was not classified as cosmetic, thereby making the medical care tax deductible, according to court documents.

Sales Tax: Is Your Head in the Clouds? (Cloud Computing, that is)

As I have mentioned on this blog before, the sales taxation of digital products and electronic commerce have become increasingly more important issues. As everyone knows, states are hurting for revenue, and since our economy has moved more and more towards electronic commerce, the states must figure out a way to tax it, or else lose out on much needed revenue.

According to Wikipedia,

Fortune Magazine Says Nice Guys Finish First!

A recent study by Fortune Magazine reports that in today’s market, companies can no longer effectively differentiate their products or services from their competitors’ offerings. This philosophy is as true in the accounting profession as it is in corporate America. As your firm seeks new ways to build a distinctive brand, Fortune suggests that you distinguish the firm instead – in other words, promote yourself instead of touting the services you offer. One way to highlight your firm’s real value is by being involved in the community.
