And most are experiencing difficult times in the plummeting market values of their properties and in the declining collectibility of rental receipts. My prime concern as their certified public accountant is the deficient state of their record keeping, often entrusted to their property managers.

I need to consolidate several small companies into a holding company using Quickbooks. One of the subsidiaries has a noncontrolling shareholder. How should I set up the consolidated chart of accounts to properly reflect the noncontrolling interest, both on balance sheet and income statement? If someone can point me to a set of sample consolidated financial statements I would appreciate it.

A tighter job market may be contributing to increased punctuality at work. A new CareerBuilder survey reveals that 16 percent of workers said they arrive late to work at least once a week, down from 20 percent in last year's survey. One-in-ten (8 percent) said they are late at least twice a week, down from 12 percent last year. This survey was conducted among more than 5,200 workers between November 5 and November 23, 2009.
