Three scholarships will be awarded to students who are declared undergraduate accounting majors based on the submission of an essay and the subsequent judging thereof. Funding is provided by AccountingWEB with the goal of encouraging accounting as a major and a career choice.
Participation in the AccountingWEB Accounting Student Scholarship program is open to United States citizens attending colleges, universities, and professional schools of accounting in the United States. Students applying for the AccountingWEB Accounting Student Scholarship must have already completed at least one semester or two trimesters of full-time college and must be declared undergraduate accounting majors, effective for the fall of 2010.
The scholarship is a $500 award, payable to students who attend college as full-time undergraduate students, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent, and who are declared accounting majors. Transcripts will be required as evidence of this status.
Scholarship winners will be chosen based on submission and subsequent judging of a short essay not to exceed 500 words. The topic for the 2010 AccountingWEB Accounting Student Scholarship is The role of accountants in Social Media. Essays will be judged on both style and content. Applications are now being accepted and will be accepted through the deadline of midnight EST June 15th, 2010. Winners will be selected in early July, 2010 and notified shortly thereafter. AccountingWEB will announce the winners to the public on July 15, 2010.
