Beta Alpha Psi announced winners of its new case competition during the 2008 annual meeting held in August in Anaheim, CA. The competition, Project Run With It, was sponsored by Moss Adams LLP.
The competition involved three not-for-profit companies, International Association of Skateboarding Companies, Fashion Business, Inc., and Saddleback Master Chorale, and 50 Beta Alpha Psi members from 42 chapters representing all three majors, accounting, finance, and information technology.
Five students teams were assigned to each of the not-for-profits to solve one of a variety of real business issues such as how to increase membership and/or fundraising dollars and still maintain appropriate internal controls; how to create a better Web site to attract new members or donors; and how to deal with the tax issues relating to the relationship between a 501c(6) and a 501c(3). The teams were provided approximately 12 hours to formulate their solutions and create their presentations. They then presented their solutions to judging panels consisting of the NFP representative, a faculty advisor, and a Moss Adams partner.
The following winners received $1,000 for their respective chapter treasuries.
