recently started a weekly series of YouTube videos on social media secrets that can help businesses excel, with Twitter the initial platform featured.

provides helpful hints on such practical topics as "Picking a Twitter Handle and Photo" and "Finding People to Follow on Twitter." The fourth episode of the series, released by the NJSCPA on September 10, focuses on "Don't Believe Everything You Read."
"Our live social media training sessions have been well-received by our members, but we wanted to reach a wider audience. Video provided us with a vehicle to make that happen," Don Meyer, NJSCPA director of communications and marketing, told AccountingWEB. "We started the video training with Twitter because it's very much a misunderstood tool, and some of the terminology can be confusing. But once members lose their apprehension about Twitter, it can be a powerful outlet for networking and business development."
Each episode is a little more than a minute long and is presented by either Meyer or Rachael Bell, NJSCPA manager of digital communication.
For example, during the first episode, "Picking a Twitter Handle and Photo," Bell says finding an available Twitter user name, or handle, is a challenge, but it's important to maintain your company brand, even on social media. She recommends finding a handle that closely aligns with your company name is as brief as possible.
"When people retweet you or mention your handle in their tweets, you want your name to take up as few of the 140 characters as possible. And it should be easy to remember and type," Bell says in the video.
Subsequent series will focus on LinkedIn, Facebook, and other social media sites.
