Matthew D. Summitt, CPA, ABV
, was recently named as the recipient of the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants (ASCPA)
2013 Outstanding Emerging CPA Award. The award recognizes a new CPA who has passed the CPA Exam within the past ten years, and/or a young CPA who is forty years of age or younger, who has made significant contributions to the Accounting Profession as well as the community at large.
In addition to the requirement that nominees for this award must be age forty or younger, and/or have passed the CPA Exam within the last ten years, they must be an ASCPA member in good standing. Nominees must also be a member of at least one ASCPA committee. Exemplary leadership qualities and skills must be demonstrated, and volunteer service within the ASCPA, local CPA chapter, or the community is required.
Originally from Paragould, Arkansas, Summitt attended Harding University in Searcy where he was a stand-out accounting student. He graduated summa cum laude from Harding University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and received the Accounting Student of the Year award in both his junior or senior years. Upon graduation, Summitt accepted a staff accountant position in the tax department at JPMS Cox, PLLC in Little Rock. He was promoted to senior accountant after just two years, and then promoted to manager after two additional years – much quicker than the normal progression. In 2011, Summitt became the first professional at JPMS Cox to receive the credential for Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and is currently leading the way for the firm into this new market. Summitt is currently serving as cochair of the 2013 Arkansas Federal Tax Institute. He was also a speaker at the 2012 Federal Tax Institute, presenting on reporting requirements for foreign income and assets. In the office, Summitt acts as the liaison between upper level management and staff, and he is highly respected for his vast tax knowledge, positive attitude, and great sense of humor.
Summitt will formally be recognized as the recipient of the 2013 ASCPA Outstanding Emerging CPA Award at the ASCPA Annual Convention Awards Banquet, to be held September 20 at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute on Petit Jean Mountain, in Morrilton, Arkansas.
Susan Brooke, CPA
, has joined the Center for Audit Quality (CAQ)
as a professional practice fellow. Formerly an audit senior manager in the McLean, Virginia, office of KPMG, Brooke will help guide the CAQ's professional practice and public policy activities during her eighteen-month fellowship.
Brooke brings thirteen years of experience auditing large multinational companies as well as midmarket and smaller private equity clients in a broad variety of industries, including consumer products and industrial manufacturing. She has been involved in the planning and execution of audit engagements, initial public offerings, and reviewing SEC filings.
During her career at KPMG, Brooke participated in the firm's quality review program and has served on the firm's training and methodology team. She earned a BS in business administration from Texas Christian University and is a CPA in Virginia and Texas.
Brooke is the fifth participant in the CAQ's professional practice fellowship program, which is conducted in partnership with the CAQ's member firms. She succeeds Natalie Protze of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), who will remain at the CAQ for a transitional period.

CohnReznick now occupies a nearly 23,000-square-foot space on the twenty-eighth penthouse floor in the office tower, located in the heart of Century City close to shopping, dining, and many of CohnReznick's valued Los Angeles–based clients.
The space offers numerous shared work areas designed to promote teambuilding. The office provides accounting, tax, and advisory services across numerous industries, including real estate, hospitality, retail, technology, private equity, manufacturing and wholesale distribution, renewable energy, not-for-profit, and education.

With over forty years of public accounting experience, Hendry has been active with GSCPA and its Educational Foundation on multiple levels, including serving as past president for both. During his tenures, he made commitment to the future of the CPA profession a recurring theme. His contributions have been recognized before by GSCPA, and he earned GSCPA's Public Service Award for 1988.
Most notably, during his term as GSCPA's president, Hendry saw the need to achieve excellence and strive to advocate for the CPA profession in Georgia, so he worked tirelessly to inform GSCPA's membership and stay on top of many issues that are incredibly important to the profession.

named five new leaders to its New York practice effective August 1. The New York practice includes the firm's offices in midtown and lower Manhattan, Long Island, and Albany, New York, and Edison, New Jersey.
Sean Denham is appointed assistant managing partner for Operations and Quality, Nichole Jordan will assume the role of assistant managing partner for Industries and Markets, Craig Casey will serve as the practice's Forensic and Valuation Services (FVS) practice leader, Carlos Ferreira becomes the Transaction Advisory Services (TAS) practice leader, and Brian Moore is appointed as the interim Tax Services practice leader.
Denham is a member of Grant Thornton's National Professional Standards group, most recently serving as the Northeast region national professional practice director. With more than twenty years of experience in public accounting, he specializes in SEC regulatory issues and Public Company Accounting Oversight Board matters. He has extensive experience in IPOs, mergers and acquisitions, and other complex business transactions.
Denham is a certified public accountant in New Jersey and Virginia. He received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Lehigh University and currently serves on Lehigh's Accounting Advisory Board.
Jordan currently serves as Grant Thornton's national Banking and Securities industry leader, a role in which she will continue to serve. In addition, she recently served as the partner in charge of the firm's New York downtown office. Jordan has extensive experience with global, regional and community banks, mortgage banks, broker-dealers, and asset management companies. She has led engagements dealing with a wide range of topics, including financial reporting, FOCUS filings, controls and enterprise risk management as well as assessing regulatory, supervisory and compliance matters. She is a certified public accountant in New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas. She received a bachelor's degree in business administration in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin.
Casey is currently the national leader of Litigation and Dispute Resolution within the FVS practice. He focuses on assisting companies with forensic investigations, damage analyses, data analytics, financial modeling, valuation issues, due diligence, business interruption, and business consulting issues associated with litigation, accounting investigations, and insurance claim recoveries. He has additional experience assisting companies preparing business plans and representing companies and creditors in bankruptcy, litigation, and financial advisory capacities. Casey is a certified public accountant in New York and certified in financial forensics. He received a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in business administration with an accounting focus from Union College.
Ferreira provides services that support the transaction strategies of private equity firms, their portfolio companies, and companies involved in mergers and acquisitions throughout the deal evaluation and negotiation processes. During his almost twenty years in professional services, he has developed considerable expertise in buy- and sell-side due diligence, helping business owners and investors in the United States and around the globe to identify the risks and upsides in a deal. Ferreira was recognized by M&A Advisor as a 40 Under 40 Awards recipient. He graduated from the University of Pretoria with a bachelor's of commerce degree in accounting sciences and completed an honors degree at the University of South Africa.
Moore has nearly twenty years of professional tax experience in the financial services industry. He has managed consulting and compliance engagements for hedge funds, fund of funds, private equity funds, offshore partnerships, broker-dealers, financial institutions, and bank holding companies. He has provided a variety of tax planning and compliance services, including federal tax consulting and planning; managing complex tax compliance projects with consolidated entities filing in multiple jurisdictions; significant mergers and acquisitions experience, including tax due diligence and structuring; and extensive ASC 740 (FAS 109) experience. Moore is a certified public accountant in Georgia, North Carolina, and New York. He received a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Alabama and a master's degree in business administration from Emory University.
Spear has twenty-eight years of business development experience. She graduated from University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a bachelor's degree in political science. She received the Medallion Award for recognition of outstanding sales achievement from a past employer.

Porter Keadle Moore (PKM)
a leading accounting firm, put a twist on its traditional firm outing by volunteering at the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB)
recently. The special service-based outing on August 2 attracted forty-one of the firm's partners, managers, staff members, interns, and family members.
The firm inspected, sorted, weighed, and packed a total of 11,145 pounds of donated food and household goods – enough to create 7,430 meals for people who do not have enough financial resources to access food for a healthy life. The packaged goods will be distributed among ACFB's more than 600 partner agencies, including food pantries, community kitchens, shelters, after school programs, and more. ACFB serves twenty-nine counties in metro Atlanta and north Georgia.
PKM's annual outing traditionally gives employees the chance for a day filled with fun and camaraderie. This year, several employees said they'd like to spend the time serving the community.
This fiscal year, ACFB distributed over forty-five million pounds of food and grocery products to those in need. The nonprofit relies heavily on volunteers to assist in their effort to fight hunger within the Atlanta area and beyond.
Joshua Chananie, CPA
, has been named a principal of Clifton, New Jersey-based Sax Macy Fromm & Co., PC (SMF)
. Chananie joined the accounting and consulting firm in 2003 after earning his BA in accounting from Binghamton University.
At SMF, Chananie's practice-area focus is the Not-for-Profit Industry Service Group, where he manages some of the firm's largest clients. He also provides accounting and consulting services to companies in the manufacturing and distribution sectors. An acknowledged leader in the area of accounting and auditing training, Chananie has developed numerous training courses and programs for the firm's professional staff. Prior to being named principal, he was an audit manager.
Through the Sax Macy Fromm Foundation, formed in 2006, the firm is committed to giving back to the community. In addition to providing volunteer and financial support to a wide range of community-based organizations throughout northern New Jersey, the firm is hosting the Second Annual 4 Miler at Garret Mountain. The race event is being held Saturday, September 7, at Garret Mountain Reservation, located at 288 Rifle Camp Road in Woodland Park, New Jersey. Proceeds will benefit St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey.

Mirkin will lead Summit's Customer Solutions Group, which launched in 2012 to develop strategic, results-driven marketing opportunities for companies in the insurance, financial services, and legal markets. The group currently offers integrated marketing services, multichannel custom content, webcasts, virtual conferences, custom events, research, and creative services to support clients' strategic marketing goals, including market development, education, thought leadership, and lead generation.
Through key hires and investments in 2012, Summit has accelerated the growth of this business over the past twelve months. Mirkin has enjoyed similar success, most recently as publisher of The Build Network at Mansueto Ventures, executing strategic partnerships with some of the largest marketers in the U.S., including GE Capital, Deloitte, Principal Financial Group, IBM, Hewlett Packard, Fidelity Investments, Unum, Chubb, UPS, and Saleforce.com.
Two of Summit's veteran editorial leaders, Jamie E. Green and Bryant Rousseau, will join the Customer Solutions Group as market strategists, whose deep industry knowledge and subject matter expertise will provide valuable insights and actionable opportunities for Summit's marketing partners. Mirkin's team will also include Elliot Markowitz, director of Strategic Content, and Andrea Mahoney, director of Integrated Program Management & Events, who have been integral in the growth of the business to date.
Mirkin will take over Customer Solutions from Jeff Patterson, president of Summit's largest market segment, the Insurance Group. Patterson will drive the company's long-term strategy to fully integrate its portfolio of continuing education and training programs, professional designations, data services, and professional publications with its core media properties in the benefits, life/health, and personal/commercial insurance markets. Patterson has extensive experience in building high-growth professional news and education businesses including four years as CEO of Safari Books Online, a paid-subscription digital library.
In July 2013, Summit announced a similar strategy in the financial services segment with the launch of ThinkAdvisor.com.
