has joined the firm as a principal in the Transaction Advisory Services group.
In this capacity, Farrell will use his experience and expertise to advise clients on all aspects of merger and acquisition activities, which includes providing buy-side and sell-side due diligence for private equity firms as well as for publicly traded and privately held companies. Before joining Cherry Bekaert, Farrell held management positions at a Big Four firm and a national consulting firm. He has also held senior financial executive management positions with multinational, publicly held companies. Farrell earned a BSc in Economics and Accountancy from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He is a Chartered Accountant (ACA) in England and Wales, and has obtained the Corporate Finance (CF) qualification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
Grant Thornton LLP
named Michael Capone
as leader of the firm's Distribution practice effective August 1. He will be based in the firm's Chicago office.
Most recently, Capone was based in Grant Thornton's Cincinnati office and led that office's Consumer and Industrial Products practice. He has served clients in the distribution, manufacturing, and retail industries, including automotive, building products, medical devices, capital machinery, chemicals, media, consumer products, and food processing. Additionally, he has extensive experience with capital markets activity, including public debt offerings and auditing portfolio investments of private equity groups.
Prior to joining Grant Thornton in 2005, Capone worked for Ernst & Young LLP in Chicago, which included a four-year secondment in Mexico serving US-based, multinational companies as well as having responsibility for training and quality control in northern Mexico.
Capone is a certified public accountant in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. He received a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Christian Pellone, a former senior international tax partner in EY's Greater China Tax Practice with regional responsibilities, has joined Minter Ellison International as a partner. Pellone is a twenty-year international tax veteran who has lived and worked in Australia, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, and mainland China. He was formerly the global tax desk leader - Asia Pacific at EY and has advised many multinational companies on tax-effective structuring and risk management in the Asia Pacific region.
Edward Lean, also previously with EY Hong Kong and London, in their financial services international tax teams, has joined as a senior tax manager. Lean is an international tax specialist with ten years' experience working with financial institution clients. He was formerly a senior tax manager in EY London's Financial Services International Tax team and was seconded to EY Hong Kong to help build out that firm's international tax advisory capability in the region.
Farrar brings more than fifteen years of IT leadership experience in the areas of application systems development and maintenance, enterprise strategic sourcing, infrastructure management, and service provider management.
During her time as CTO consultant to NASBA, the association achieved tremendous progress in the assessment and stabilization of its IT organization and systems. Currently under Farrar's leadership, NASBA is nearing the final development stage of modernizing a major system to support NASBA's CPA Examination Services (CPAES) division. Farrar is a graduate of the University of Phoenix with a bachelor's degree in business management and administration.

The Indian Waters Council of the Boy Scouts of America held a dedication ceremony Saturday, July 13, 2013, to celebrate the opening of the Randy Scott Memorial Shooting Range at Camp Barstow, the Midlands camp where Scouts enjoy summer on over 300 acres along the banks of Lake Murray.
The shooting range is named in honor of Randy Scott, founder of Scott and Company CPAs
, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in January 2012. Scott's record of service to Scouting included membership on the Indian Waters Council's Executive Board and service in numerous officer roles, including Council President. As President, he eliminated $350,000 in operating debt and raised more than $1 million in cash and gifts in-kind for the council's capital campaign.
Funding for the shooting range came from community contributions made in Scott's honor after his passing, and from a matching contribution by Scott and Company CPAs, the firm he founded. The firm operates offices in Columbia and Greenville, and provides audit and assurance, tax and a range of consulting services to clients across the Southeast and internationally.

Drawing from over thirty years of combined experience in public accounting and private industry, Johnson is the leader of the business advisory services group and the financial accounting outsourcing (FAO) services team for the firm's Minnesota region. With more than twenty years of experience, Lester is a member of the firm's health care industry practice, where he specializes in serving the senior-living industry.
