Avalara, a market-leading provider of sales tax automation services in the Cloud, announced the appointment of Scott Peterson as Director of Government Affairs effective November 12.
Peterson, a seasoned veteran in tax administration, most recently served as executive director of the Streamline Sales Tax Governing Board, Inc. (SSTGB). In this role, Peterson was responsible for the administrative needs of the governing board and its committees; he's been involved with Streamline since its inception in 2000.

Prior to his role at the SSTGB, Peterson was director of the Business Tax division for the South Dakota Department of Revenue and Regulation, where he was responsible for the administration of the South Dakota sales tax, the contractor's excise tax, and municipal sales tax. Prior to that, Scott worked for the South Dakota Legislature specializing in tax policy.
Peterson is a veteran of the United States Army. He received a BS degree in political science from Black Hills State University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of South Dakota.
