Have you wrestled with the issue of how much social media use is appropriate in the workplace [1]? A friend of mine switched from a regular cell phone to a smartphone so she could access her social media sites because her employer had the sites blocked on company computers. In other words, people will find a way to make the connections they feel are necessary, in spite of, or in harmony with company rules.

The lines are becoming blurred between personal and professional relationships as we connect with family, friends, colleagues, and their connections, in cyberspace. So much of the accounting business is about referrals and word-of-mouth recommendations. It's time to look at social media tools as the next step in building and maintaining business relationships.
