你知道怎么说中文吗？ If you don't understand this, you may be in trouble!
Don’t understand Chinese? Better start boning up on that language. Thanks to NAFTA and Bill Clinton, your next job interview may be in China!
Immigrants flocked to our country over the past one-hundred and fifty years, seeking a better economic life. All those Germans, Swedes, Italians, Poles, et al had to learn English to obtain good jobs. And perhaps now you and your children will have to learn Chinese, too, since virtually all of the manufacturing jobs have gone to China. And you can expect more service jobs going to China, India, the Philippines, South Korea, as well, since Comcast, AT&T, and prominent newspapers (the Hartford Courant) have already started exporting services to these countries as well. How’s your Sanskrit? Still struggling with its alphabet?
I have been very disappointed with the Connecticut politicians’ speeches given while campaigning. I have yet to heard anything specific, plausible, convincing, and encouraging on how, if elected, they would create jobs. Did you listen to that Dick Blumenthal mumbo jumbo on how he would create jobs? Linda McMahon is no labor economist either, since all she has spitted out is simply decrease taxes on businesses, like every Republican born since Lincoln.
Dear Dick and Linda, there needs to be both a carrot and a stick to induce employers to create more jobs. Target the tax code by making it more economically attractive to create jobs here in our country. Offer investment tax credits, job tax credits, domestic production activities deductions, and make them very generous, while at the same time increasing the overall highest marginal tax rates on all businesses and individuals to make these credits more compelling. By increasing the highest marginal tax rates, you would cover the shortfall in tax revenues expected from offering all of these tax credits and deductions to create jobs here in the good old USA. If I were running for office, that’s what I would propose. Of course, I would never be elected for proposing such since to even breathe an increase in a tax rate during an election year spells anathema to any politician’s lifespan.
Do you recall our forefathers saying that we are born with certain inalienable rights…life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Can there be any happiness without a job? Ask all of those poor souls losing their homes now, unable to purchase health insurance, and provide for a college education for their children. Given the way the U.S. currently measures unemployment, real unemployment is probably closer to 20% and not 10%. We speak of conservation of our resources and wildlife, but isn’t 20% unemployment a terrible waste of one of our most precious resources…the human resource? With all of the current problems in our country, imagine having 20% more individuals working and addressing these problems, whether it be remodeling all of those boarded up buildings in your cities, or those homes in your neighborhood, or providing services for your businesses or families and at much reduced, competitive costs.
Politicians keep talking, but they fail to mention any specifics in their solutions to our many problems, resorting to name calling and personal attack ads. What a waste of time, money, and human resources.
