GETTING SERIOUS ABOUT CHANGE
It's May, and for me, it is busy season. Since April 15th, I have already met and talked with several groups of practitioners. The more I am out and about, the more I hear phrases like this, or very similar to this and sometimes with more colorful language: "Our firm is at a plateau. We simply can't move forward until our partners are ready to change."
Step 1: Any change program that is based on a negative will surely fail in the long term. Which approach do you think will get better results? "If you don't improve your productivity, you will be fired." OR "Our way to success is to streamline how we get work out the door. If we can do this, we will free up time to focus on other major initiatives." In short, start your change program with a bright view of the future and how you intend to get there.
