New Jersey CPAs donate $200,000 to childrens' charities
This marks the second consecutive year that The Special Operations Warrior Foundation and the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation benefited from J.H. Cohn's golf invitational, bringing the total raised for these two charities to $400,000. Over the years, the J.H. Cohn Foundation has given more than $1 million to charitable causes.
The Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides college scholarship grants, financial aid, and educational counseling to the children of Special Operations personnel who were killed in an operational mission or training accident. The Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation is devoted to ending the cycle of domestic violence and loss of life through two Foundation initiatives, Margaret's Place and Community Players.
"I am so proud of our Firm's strong commitment to backing such worthy causes," said Michael L. Cohen, managing partner of J.H. Cohn's Roseland office and director of the J.H. Cohn Foundation. "Best of all, many people throughout the Firm volunteer to roll up their sleeves and play a part in our efforts for Cohn for Kids. I attribute the success of our golf invitational to the work of our partners and staff and the support of J.H. Cohn's clients and friends."
Held at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, NJ, the outing's presenting sponsor was Capital One Bank. The June 23rd event, which featured 27 holes, nine of which were on a rated par-3 course, concluded with a shoot-out for a $10,000 prize. Those who were closest to the pin on the nine holes of the par-3 course were able to compete in the shoot-out. The closest to the pin on that hole received $10,000 in cash. That winner generously donated the $10,000 in winnings to Cohn for Kids. In addition, silent and live auctions where packages such as a vacation in Spain, dinner at Rao's in New York, and tickets to the last game at Yankee Stadium fetched significant donations.
"At J.H. Cohn, giving back has been a hallmark of our business since 1919," said Thomas J. Marino, chief executive officer of J.H. Cohn. "We take our role as a corporate citizen very seriously and take pride in the fact that this philosophy resonates throughout the Firm."
In 2007, J.H. Cohn was named the Corporate Citizen of the Year by NJBIZ magazine. The award honors one New Jersey leader that exemplifies the tenet of "doing well by doing good" and shows a sustained commitment to employees and the community.
The J.H. Cohn Foundation's Cohn for Kids campaign also benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey through the Firm's annual employee Bowl-A-Thon. You can read additional information on Cohn for Kids .
