The firm's philosophy is simply that it must give back to the community in which it works. It also believes that people who participate in charitable endeavors build leadership skills. Each year, the firm champions two causes on company time and over time, the list of causes has grown.
When Habitat for Humanity needed help building houses, the employee response was overwhelming. Last year, the firm had a small waiting list of people who wanted to help because the team of 20, capped by the charity, had easily been met.
For various charitable projects, participation rates at the firm are high. Nearly 70 people participated in a toy drive for needy children and 20 employees polished their bowling balls for the Junior Achievement Bowl-a-thon, raising more than $3,000. Wiss & Company collected more than 260 pounds of food for the state's food bank with 27 people stocking, cleaning, and restocking shelves. Lee Denim Day, which raises money for breast cancer research, proved popular with 87 participants who donated $1,235 and wore their jeans to work. Likewise, 47 employees wore red clothing for Wear Red Day and raised $484 for heart disease research.
