1. California Enacts New ID Theft Law, Federal Bill Introduced [3]
In an effort to crack down on identity theft, a new law went into effect in California last week that puts the impetus on businesses to notify their customers in that state if they even suspect that personal information may have been compromised.

The Internal Revenue Service reminded approximately 750,000 small and mid-size businesses using "off-the-shelf" retirement plan documents that they must update their plans by Sept. 30, 2003.
