Intuit Quickly Corrects Security Error

Posted by accountingweb on Mar 6 2000 79 printer friendly
A glitch in advertising systems on the Quicken.com Web site recently caused a mortgage calculator and credit assessment function to report user information to one of Intuit's [1] advertisers, DoubleClick, Inc. Intuit reports the problem has been corrected.

Income, asset and debt information was mistakenly reported to DoubleClick, an Internet ad firm. In response, DoubleClick said it did not keep any of the data it received.

Intuit responded by immediately moving the ad from its Web site.

The problem, however, may be more far reaching than previously thought. According to an Internet security consultant, the video searches performed by customers using Buy.com also were sent to DoubleClick.
