The IRS and its Electronic Tax Administration have announced a new service called QuickAlerts that is available for free to e-file software developers and transmitters.

The service will be used in the spring of 2002 to communicate important and urgent messages from the IRS to e-file servicing customers.

Users of this service will be able to choose to have messages delivered via e-mail, telephone, cell phone, or fax, and users may also indicate the preferred time of day for receipt of messages.

Subscribers to the QuickAlerts system will receive the following services:

  • Alerts such as programming or processing delays and telephone router problems.
  • Notifications of conferences, seminars, and revisions in technical publications
  • IRS e-file Service Center messages including program updates, service center maintenance schedules, IRS e-file Help Desk phone numbers and hours.

Only authorized IRS e-file transmitter or software developers are eligible to subscribe to this service.

Subscriptions are now being offered on the QuickAlerts Web site [1].
