Dot.com, Dot.net, Dot.whatnext?
Just as big cities outgrow their area codes, the Internet is outgrowing its domain name extensions, and the International Cooperation for Assigned Names and Numbers is about to do something about that problem. All extension names must be approved by the ICANN, a California-based group.
New extension names will be announced some time next year. At that time, companies that have purchased the rights to all versions of their domain name may find themselves feeling the need to purchase even more variations of their Internet name.
