Newest POB Member has SEC Experience
Her appointment, effective Jan. 1, replaces Melvin R. Laird, who will retire this year. A partner with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in Los Angeles, Peters brings with her extensive experience in many areas, especially SEC matters. She served as a commissioner of the SEC for four years from 1984 to 1988.
Peters also served on the POB's Panel on Audit Effectiveness, a group that recently issued a report on the way independent audits are performed.
The retiring Laird has enjoyed a distinguished career in public service as a representative in the U.S. Congress from Wisconsin for nine terms, secretary of Defense from 1969 to 1973, and as counselor to the President for Domestic Affairs from 1973 to 1974. When he completes his term on Dec. 31, he will have the distinction of having served longer than any other POB member.
