Details on the Postage Rate Increase

Posted by accountingweb on Nov 6 2000 92 printer friendly
The cost to mail a first-class letter is going to increase as of January 2001, but the new rate is still undecided. According to a report from Stamps.com [1], the exact postage rate increase by the United States Postal Service [2] is pending.

The Postal Service did publish a full chart [3] early in the year with predicted rates (note: the free Adobe Reader [4] is required for viewing this document). Based on reports, the increase will only be one cent for first-class mail to 34 cents; additional ounces would go from 22 cents to 23 cents each.

The Postal Service also updated a list of Frequently Asked Questions [5]. Check them out for the latest updates, including an explanation of international and priority mail.

The exact rate increase may be known after the Board of Governors meets Nov. 13-14.
