AICPA Moves Ahead With Cognitor Designation

Posted by accountingweb on Oct 26 2000 318 printer friendly
Even though several of the world's accounting organizations have shown mixed support for the 'Cognitor' designation, the American Institute of CPAs [1] has decided to move ahead with its plans to create and implement the global designation.

The decision was made this week at the Fall Council meeting in Las Vegas, and only was agreed to thanks to wording supplied by the Ohio Society of CPAs [2]. The Society asked that the Institute research both the financial implications of the designation, along with how it will affect other areas, including student recruitment into the profession.

The content of what exactly a cognitor represents still is in development, but the designation is designed to represent anyone working within the accounting, legal, consulting, marketing, HR and IT arenas.

Currently, plans are underway to ask the AICPA membership for their vote this spring.
