New York Jets Join NYSSCPA in Special CPA Campaign
"The accounting profession has empowered me to develop a set of knowledge and skills which have allowed me to fulfill a childhood dream of becoming a part of a professional sports team," Minarcyk said.
"The Jets Posters are part of an ongoing campaign to inform students of diversity," said Marc Zand, Chair of the NYSSCPA Recruitment Committee. College graduates can expect a starting salary of $33,000 to $55,000. Accounting jobs are available with public accounting firms, government, corporations and with self-employed certified public accountants. A more experienced CPA has a salary of $250,000 and above. The accountant's role is beyond bookkeeping into tax and estate planning, personal finance, management consulting and small business advice."
Through its COAP (Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession) Program, the NYSSCPA and its Foundation for Accounting Education offers a residential learning experience developed to expose promising minority high school students to accounting and business careers. Founded in 1987, COAP offers students a weeklong residency session with a tailored curriculum and an opportunity to meet and talk with successful minority role models. Each summer, almost 100 students attend summer sessions held at Pace and Hofstra Universities.
