These results were released in the Yankee Group’s Small and Medium Business Applications and Web Survey. The survey is a comprehensive study of the adoption, applications and requirements of SMBs for business applications and web site services. The answers gained in the survey went toward defining SMB’s business application and web site needs, preferences and purchasing behavior.
Microsoft entered into the low-end applications market with their Microsoft Dynamics GP, formerly called Microsoft Business Solutions–Great Plains. Their software currently covers the Construction and Professional Services industries. This software can manage and integrate finances, e-commerce, supply chain, manufacturing, project accounting, field service, customer relationships, and human resources as a cost-effective solution.
Changes made to data in the system financial management tools are seen in real-time. These tools include general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivables modules, bank reporting, cash flow management, and statement reconciliation. Analytics, reporting and budgeting tools are also available to handle simple reporting requests or advanced consolidation analysis.
The Microsoft Dynamics Business Portal integrates directly with Microsoft Dynamics GP, making data and processes accessible using an Internet-based portal. These applications integrate and work like other Microsoft products such as Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office System products, and Microsoft SQL Server.
Sage offers their Internet-based Accpac ERP and middle-level BusinessWorks Accounting solutions, as well as entry-level Peachtree First Accounting and Simply Accounting. Sage FAS Fixed Assets and its variants are specifically designed for different business entities to solve fixed asset inventory, asset accounting and depreciation and any reporting challenges. Sage CPA Practice Manager and CPA Accounting offer comprehensive solutions for handling CPA firms and accounting needs.
Intuit was the leader in the 2-99-employee market with products such as Quickbooks and Quickbooks Online. They offer Quickbooks for all level users, from Simple Start to Quickbooks Pro and Premier, to their Enterprise version. Quickbooks for Mac is also available. Quickbooks Online is available at a reasonable monthly cost.
