Taxpayer Advocacy Panel Members Chosen
Functions of the panel include:
- Listening to taxpayers
- Identifying issues
- Making suggestions for improving IRS service and customer satisfaction
- Serving as a conduit for discussion of issues between the public and the IRS
TAP members are expected to spend approximately 300 hours per year working on duties relating to panel membership.
The TAP replaces the former Citizen Advocacy Panel which was made up of members from 10 states representing four national regions. "The new panel members have an important job to make sure that the IRS provides world-class service to taxpayers. Now that we have expanded the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel to all 50 states, we can ensure that taxpayers from every corner of the country will have their voices heard," said Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill.
