PC World Reviews New Version of Peachtree
The most highly-touted feature is an expansion of the multi-pricing component which enables the user to assign up to 10 prices to each item that is for sale. Prices can be fixed or calculated based on a percentage of the cost. This feature is recommended for businesses that offer the same item to different customers for different prices.
For example, a company that offers several different pricing options to various customers based on such factors as the volume of sales, geographic location, seasonal variances, and holiday sales, can set up the sales item with all possible prices attached, then it is a simple matter to choose the appropriate price when the sale is recorded.
Another feature mentioned in the PC World review is a new e-mail alert system that causes an e-mail message to be dispatched when a certain situation occurs. The example given is when inventory reaches a certain level, an e-mail message indicating it is time to reorder can be sent to the purchasing department.
The Peachtree program is compared favorably to market leader QuickBooks, which will begin its own beta testing for the 2002 version later this month.
