Tax Professionals Offer Assistance to Attack Victims
NATP has posted free information on its Web site that can help victims get their tax issues resolved quickly. The information consists of IRS tax forms, publications, and resources that taxpayers can use to file returns and claim refunds.
Tax practitioners can be located by contacting the NATP on their Web site or by calling NATP at 800-558-3402, Ext. 3.
So far, 29 NATP members have volunteered their services either for free or at a substantial discount, according to Susan Lucius, marketing manager for NATP. The services include business and individual tax preparation, estate planning, accounting services and bookkeeping services. One member even has office space available.
Each member is offering services a little bit differently. Most are offering services for those directly affected by September's tragic events. One member is offering services for the NY firefighters and police.
"To date, there has not been anyone asking for help," said Ms. Lucius. "I think that most people directly affected have not thought about tax issues yet. We anticipate the majority of the phone calls to come in this January when people begin to think about having their tax returns prepared."
