Connecticut's Blum, Shapiro Grabs Scully & Wolf

Blum, Shapiro & Co., the largest regional accounting firm based in Connecticut, has acquired Scully & Wolf in order to build its practice in government audit services.

Scully & Wolf is known as a major provider of municipal audit services in the state and has also cultivated a strong practice serving nonprofit and commercial customers, Blum, Shapiro said.

Terms of the transaction weren't disclosed.

Scully & Wolf now employs 30, including administrative support staff. All employees will have jobs in the merged company, but the Glastonbury, Connecticut office will close, according to a Blum, Shapiro spokeswoman.

The combined firm, with 210 employees, will take the Blum, Shapiro name and will have offices in West Hartford and Southport. Scully & Wolf employees will be transferred to the West Hartford, Connecticut office.

"We had a desire to expand our resources and service to government clients," said Carl R. Johnson, Blum, Shapiro's managing partner. "Scully & Wolf has distinguished itself in this area."

Scully & Wolf partner Joseph A. Kask will lead Blum, Shapiro's governmental services group, which focuses on the needs of municipalities, government agencies and special taxing districts.
