Survey Shows Boys Spend More Time At Computer
A survey of more than 145 local kids showed that computers are used for playing games, typing schoolwork, and earching the Internet. The survey was conducted in direct conjunction with the firm’s participation in “Take Our Daughters To Work Day” and covered questions about careers, role models, and future aspirations.
When it comes to admiration, parents are right at the top of the list. Both boys and girls (51 percent) chose one or both parents as the people they most admire. Friends and teachers ranked second while sports figures and other prominent individuals were mentioned.
The kids covered all the bases when they answered the question, “What job do you plan to do when you are older?” For girls, becoming a teacher was the most popular response with 15 percent of votes. Veterinarian followed closely with 13 percent and doctor and singer finished out the top our. For boys, professional athlete was the most popular career choice with 41 percent of responses followed by doctor with 7 percent and military serviceman with 5 percent.
As for putting a woman in the White House, an overwhelming majority of both girls (99 percent) and boys (85 percent) said a woman could be President of the United States because “men and women are equal.” And when it comes to what it takes to be successful, boys favored hard work (25 percent) and girls opted for a college education (19 percent). Other responses among girls included hard work, and being polite and nice. Boys also chose being smart, and being honest, polite and nice.
