"We don't see this as a cost-cutting measure," she said. PwC is aggressively recruiting consultants, she added, but with a focus on those with skills in customer relationship management and the e-marketplace.
The firm is trying to recruit up to 3,000 e-business consultants over the next few months. Those now leaving represented a wide range of service sectors.
The spokesperson added that this was nothing to do with the impending sale of the firm's consulting division, it was merely a "periodic rebalancing."
The changing in the consulting workforce is not related to reports  that the Big Five firm was to cut several partners as part of cost-cutting measures, she said.
