Elementary School Students Get Accounting Blitz in Michigan

On Thursday and Friday of last week, over 50 volunteers took to the elementary schools in Grand Rapids, Michigan to take part in the ongoing "Accounting Blitz" [1] across the state. To date, over 13,000 elementary school children have learned the basics of economics and have been exposed to the world of accounting in Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Detroit, Lansing and Flint, Michigan.

The "Accounting Blitz" is sponsored by the Michigan CPA Society and the Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes. The goal of Junior Achievement is to ensure that young people across the country learn about and understand the free enterprise system.

"The Michigan Association of CPAs is very excited that our members can help advance the Junior Achievement program. This partnership will allow certified public accountants throughout Michigan to reach out to students and give back to the community," said Peggy Dzierzawski, MACPA president and CEO. "It's so important that our children learn the basic concepts of business, and who better to lead this effort than CPAs."
