E&Y Makes Top 100 List of Best Places to Work for IT Pros
Computerworld ranks companies based on responses to a 100-question survey that includes information about average salary and bonus increases, percentage of IT staff promoted, IT staff turnover rates, training and development, and percentage of women and minorities in IT staff and management positions. Other factors include employee satisfaction with salaries and bonuses, benefits, and work/life balance issues.
Companies that qualified for the competition had 2002 revenue of at least $250 million and employed at least 100 people.
Ernst & Young ranked 48th on the list of 100. The firm employees 1,029 IT personnel. On average E&Y promoted 12% of its IT staff in 2002, experienced an 11% IT staff turnover, has 54% of its total IT staff made up of women and minorities with 11% in management positions, and budgets $2,500 and four days per IT person per year for training. IT workers at E&Y are offered opportunities to follow a career path in management or advanced specialization with promotional opportunities comparable to those on the management track.
Heading up the list of top 100 companies are Hershey Foods Corp., Harley-Davidson, Inc., University of Miami, Network Appliance Inc., and VSP (Vision Service Plan).
