Avalara, a market-leading provider of sales tax and compliance automation services in the Cloud, announced on March 15 a new, completely automated consumer use tax management solution: Avalara AvaTax Consumer Use.
AvaTax works in conjunction with hundreds of billing systems, financial applications, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems serving businesses of all sizes. The Microsoft Dynamics user community will be among the first to see the benefits of AvaTax Consumer Use. Avalara is launching the service for Dynamics AX, GP, and NAV on March 18 at Convergence 2013, the premier event for the Microsoft Dynamics customer and partner business community.
Avalara previously offered a tailored consumer use tax service that was primarily suited for larger enterprises. The new automated solution leverages Avalara's powerful, highly accurate tax decision engine and is seamlessly integrated with a user's accounting system. AvaTax Consumer Use is a simple, affordable solution that will benefit all companies - but especially small to medium-sized businesses.
The new offering is part of Avalara's quest to provide industry-leading solutions across its entire service based compliance platform. "Our aim is to be the clear leader in every market we enter," said Avalara Founder and CEO Scott McFarlane. "We're building a compliance Cloud aimed at combining the best available content with industry-leading technology to deliver the best sales, use and value added tax calculation and filing solutions to business of all sizes. AvaTax Consumer Use will play a starring role in that equation."
Today, consumer use tax management is minimally supported in most accounting software and ERP solutions, and managing it manually can be even more time-consuming, costly, and complicated than managing sales tax. Unfortunately, companies that ignore the obligation or manage it incorrectly do so at their own risk. Audits are on the rise, and under- or misreported consumer use taxes by business often create a fertile ground for audits and penalties. "Avalara's consumer use SaaS solution relieves accounting departments of this risk and burden by automating calculation and compliance tasks so businesses can focus on more valuable activities," said McFarlane.
Avalara's automated consumer use tax solution seamlessly integrates with virtually any ERP application, beginning with Microsoft Dynamics AX, GP, and NAV solutions. Tax calculation can be scheduled to fit with a company's filing schedule and processed quickly at the click of a button. Tax data is then automatically made available to AvaTax Returns, streamlining the tax management process while eliminating the complexities and long hours.
The launch of AvaTax Consumer Use comes on the heels of Avalara's recent purchase of Tax Technology Services, one of the nation's leading providers of Cloud-hosted sales tax exemption certificate management solutions, as well as acquisitions designed to accelerate the company's drive to become the undisputed leader in sales tax content. In January, Avalara purchased UPC Matrix Master, the world's largest product taxability database, as well as tens of thousands of fully researched and maintained product tax codes from leading industry partners.
"Avalara pioneered the service-based platform for sales tax automation and we've spent the last eight years perfecting the fastest, easiest, most accurate and affordable way to manage indirect taxes," said McFarlane. We're establishing a new standard for consumer use tax management, while raising the bar for the entire compliance and automation industry in the coming years."
