The books are among the thirty to forty titles donated that also include children's classics, such as Charlotte's Web, and books written in Spanish.
KPMG's Portland office is supporting Lowrie Primary as part of the firm's national Family for Literacy (FFL) initiative. KPMG's FFL initiative began five years ago in cooperation with the nonprofit First Book and is led by the spouses of KPMG partners and employees from across the firm's offices. In addition to raising money for KPMG's FFL, KPMG's extended family of volunteers, which includes partners, spouses, employees, interns and alumni, and family and friends, visit classrooms, read to children, and deliver new books to low income children. In many cases, these are the first books their families have owned.

As part of the Reading Relay, KPMG's ninety offices across the country will conduct events at schools and organizations that serve children from low-income families at which KPMG people, spouses, other family members, and alumni will volunteer their time to read to children and give each student five new books - called the "First Five" collection
- to take home with them. The First Five collection, which represents the favorite children's books as voted on by KPMG's people, will be given on behalf of every one of KPMG's more than 22,000 employees. In total, 130,000 new books will be distributed.
Over the past five years, KPMG has distributed more than two million new books to children in need and refurbished the libraries of numerous schools. Going forward, KPMG is donating new books on behalf of every new hire that joins the firm.
Kiffle the Kangaroo, the FFL mascot, will be attending several Reading Relay events across the country to entertain and engage students.
