Professionals in business, education, accounting, and public policy will come together to examine the best ethical practices within the auditing profession on November 29. The Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity at Baruch College will host Ensuring Integrity: The 7th Annual Audit Conference, 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Newman Vertical Campus, 55 Lexington Avenue (enter at 24th or 25th Street), Room 14-220.
Cosponsored by the NASBA Center for the Public Trust (CPT), which addresses ethical behavior in education, business, and in public policy and society, the conference will provide a forum for interaction between these professionals and policy setters from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). James Doty, chairman of the PCAOB, will give the keynote address from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The conference will answer questions about what is happening at each of these organizations and discuss the impact to auditing practices and to the profession overall. The role of SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) and the PCAOB on financial reporting, as well as liability hot buttons for 2013, will also be discussed.

Elliott Davis, PLLC, an accounting, tax, and consulting services firm in the Southeast, has announced the addition of Michael Koupal as an assurance manager in its Charlotte, North Carolina, office
A certified public accountant with more than eight years of experience, Koupal will provide accounting and assurance services to financial institution clients. His experience includes working with community banks ranging in size from $100 million to more than $3 billion in assets, and includes SEC, SOX 404, external and internal audits, and financial statement preparation. Koupal holds a BS in accounting and mathematics from Adrian College and an MS in accounting from Eastern Michigan University.
Elliott Davis has added shareholder Bill Quattlebaum and Senior Manager Russell Quattlebaum to its Columbia office. The Quattlebaums join the firm as it celebrates its 20-year anniversary in the Columbia market.
A certified public accountant with more than thirty years of experience, Bill Quattlebaum will provide tax services to high net worth individuals and closely held businesses. His son, Russell Quattlebaum, will provide assurance services to clients across a wide range of industries.
Due to its continued growth, Elliott Davis recently renewed and expanded its presence at the Bank of America Plaza in downtown Columbia. The firm has leased additional space and soon will occupy 25,000 square feet of the building.
Hartman Leito & Bolt, LLP (HLB), a full-service accounting and consulting firm, announced that Jill Eastman has joined the firm as director of marketing, and Tracy Fenwick, CPA, has joined the firm as senior tax manager. This announcement comes after several new hires and promotions at HLB, further contributing to the firm's growth and expansion of services.
As director of marketing, Eastman will focus on integrated marketing communications, including direct marketing, public relations, design, interactive media, and internal and external communications. Eastman joins HLB from Hahnfeld Hoffer Stanford, a local architect firm where she was director of marketing. Prior to Hahnfeld, Eastman worked with Weaver and Tidwell, LLP, where she served in a variety of positions, including corporate marketing manager.
As senior tax manager, Fenwick will manage several client portfolios in a variety of industries, including real estate, technology, manufacturing, and distribution. Fenwick comes to HLB from e-Rewards, Inc., where she served as tax director. Fenwick has also served as a senior tax manager at Hein & Associates LLP and as tax manager at McAfee Inc. and Grant Thornton LLP.
Kaufman, Rossin & Co., an independent accounting firm in Florida, announced that Blain Heckaman has been appointed managing principal as part of an ongoing succession plan. James Kaufman, one of the founding members of Kaufman, Rossin, had previously served in this role since the inception of the firm. Kaufman will remain as chairman and CEO.
Heckaman began his career with the firm twenty-eight years ago as a senior auditor before making partner in June 1996. He is a certified public accountant in both Florida and Indiana and has served as an engagement partner for public and private audit clients. As managing principal, he will take a more active role in firm management, something he has already been involved with for the past several years.
Employees at Knoxville's Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC (LBMC), an accounting and business consulting firm in the Southeast, recently filled and delivered fifteen "Baskets of Hope" to Knox Area Rescue Ministries to help families in need this Thanksgiving.
Each basket provides a Thanksgiving dinner for up to six people, complete with everything from the turkey to the potatoes. LBMC has participated in Baskets of Hope for a number of years and each year manages to fill more baskets than the previous year.
"Baskets of Hope is one of the many ways our employees give back during the holiday season and all year long," says Sandy Richards, office manager for LBMC's Knoxville office. "It is always heartwarming to see our employees rally together for such a good cause, and we hope the warmth carries over to recipients of these baskets."
LBMC announced the naming of the five new partners of 2012: Paul Burris, Jonathan Cooke, Andrew McDonald, and Bob Miller in the Nashville office, and Bill Kelso in Knoxville.
Burris, a certified public accountant, is now a partner in LBMC Outsourcing Services Division/Tax Services. He has diversified experience with a variety of industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, distributing, retail, and government services. Since joining the LBMC team in 2006, his areas of expertise have included multistate tax planning, federal and state tax compliance, and financial statement reporting of taxes under ASC 740. Burris is a graduate of the University of Tennessee where he received a Master of Accountancy concentrating in the area of taxation, and Middle Tennessee State University where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration.
Cooke, a certified public accountant, is a partner in Tax Services and has more than eighteen years of accounting and tax services with LBMC. He has diversified experience in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, distribution, and healthcare. He has significant experience in federal and state taxation for large and multistate corporations and publicly held companies. Cooke is a member of the firm's entrepreneurial services team, which focuses on closely held family business with their distinct tax and consulting needs. He has provided consultation and analysis for both buyers and sellers of businesses. Cooke is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State and serves on its Accounting Advisory Board.
McDonald, fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, has been named partner in LBMC's Healthcare Consulting Division. He is experienced in providing due diligence, revenue cycle management, valuation, coding/compliance, strategic planning, human resource management, financial analysis, IT (EMR) assessment/ consulting, practice development, and general practice management services to organizations preparing to meet the challenges presented by an ever-changing healthcare environment. McDonald is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a bachelor's degree in commerce and business administration and a master's degree in hospital and health administration. He has held adjunct faculty positions with various universities and speaks to national/regional/local groups on a routine basis.
Miller, a certified public accountant, has joined the firm this year as a partner in the Tax Services Division. Prior to joining LBMC, he was a partner in Ernst & Young's Transaction Advisory Services Group and spent more than nine years with another Big Four firm in California. Miller has over sixteen years of public accounting experience, of which fourteen were dedicated primarily to providing both buy-side and sell-side tax due diligence and tax structuring advice to both private equity and strategic buyer clients. In his role at LBMC, Miller is consulting with both businesses and private equity clients on transaction tax matters, including acquisition and due diligence services, sell-side advice and assistance, deal structure and analysis, M&A process optimization, transaction costs analysis, valuation services, and merger integration. He attended undergraduate and graduate school at California State University-Hayward, where he studied business administration with an emphasis on accounting and taxation.
Kelso, a certified public accountant, is now a partner in the Accounting and Assurance Services division in the Knoxville. He has diversified experience with a variety of industries including manufacturing, transportation, distribution, utilities, nonprofits, and services. Kelso has worked with clients on annual and quarterly reporting for private and public companies, initial and secondary public stock offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and to address other significant business issues. Kelso is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, with an undergraduate degree in accounting and business administration and a Master of Accountancy.
LBMC has added Kelsey Rogers in its Brentwood (Nashville) office. Rogers has joined the firm as a human resources representative in the Share Services/Human Resources Department. In her new position, she will be focusing on assisting with continuing professional education (CPE) training, college recruitment, and various employee development tasks for the Human Resources Department. Rogers is a graduate of the University of Tennessee Chattanooga with a human resources management degree.
LBMC has added Brian Esser, JD, to its Knoxville office. Esser has joined the accounting firm in a senior position within the tax division. Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, his previous roles include working in both the legal and accounting industries. He has experience providing healthcare consulting services to physicians and hospitals in the areas of financial and legal expertise specializing in tax. He earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Creighton University and JD from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law. He is also an active volunteer for the Income Tax Assistance program with the IRS.
LBMC has added Kathy Campbell in its Knoxville office in an administrative assistant position. She was previously an implementation manager in the telecommunications field.
Atlanta-based accounting firm Moore Colson recently announced that Robin B. Kelley, Jr. was presented with the Peak Award for his significant contributions to the firm. Kelley is the firm's director of marketing, and this is the second time he has received the coveted award. The Moore Colson Peak Award is given to an individual based on significant contributions to the firm and work performed that is considered above and beyond expectations or something unique that an individual brought to the firm which has made a significant impact.
Kelley is responsible for all aspects of Moore Colson's marketing and PR efforts and also college recruiting. Over the years, he has played a major role in promoting and raising the firm's brand awareness throughout the Atlanta area. He recently restructured the firm website and has also been instrumental in developing new multi-industry marketing collateral aiding the firm's new business development effort. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication in Athens, Georgia, with a BAJ Journalism degree.
Moss Adams LLP, an accounting and business consulting firm, announced that it has admitted Brent Meyers as a partner in the company's Manufacturing and Consumer Products group. In this role, Meyers will oversee the firm's delivery of a new suite of manufacturing and consumer products consulting services, including process improvement and optimization, supply chain management, merger and acquisition advisory, and marketing strategies, among others. Meyers will serve clients nationally from the firm's office in San Francisco.
Meyers possesses more than twenty years of experience developing and delivering growth-oriented, cross-functional manufacturing and consumer products solutions for both middle-market and Fortune 500 companies. Previously, he was the Pacific region director of strategy and revenue enhancement consulting at Andersen Consulting; US managing partner for strategy consulting at Grant Thornton; president and CEO at the Corporation for Manufacturing Excellence; and, most recently, the CEO of Competitive Dynamics LLC.
