The winners of the Greatest Potential Impact on Practice Award for research in management accounting are Eddy Cardinaels, Ph.D., and Eva Labro, Ph.D., for their paper, “On the Determinants of Measurement Error in Time-Driven Costing,” which was published in the Accounting Review. Sponsored by the AICPA, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, and the Society of Management Accountants of Canada, the award recognizes academic papers that are considered most likely to have a significant impact on management accounting practice. Also, Joel Demski, Ph.D., has been awarded the 2010 Lifetime Contribution Award from the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association. Sponsored by the AICPA, the accolade recognizes individuals who have made an important mark on management accounting education, research, and practice. Demski was honored for his research and teachings on applications of information economics and agency theory to accounting.
Aronson & Company recently announced that it has changed its name to Aronson LLC, effective January 1, 2011. This announcement coincides with the company changing its operating entity to a limited liability company.
SAS 70 Solutions, Inc. announced that it has changed its name to BrightLine CPAs & Associates, Inc. (BrightLine). This new name reflects the company’s broader suite of attestation and compliance services, which now include SAS 70 and SSAE 16 assessments, PCI DSS validations, and ISO 27001 certification services.
Crowe Horwath LLP announced it has expanded its Audit and Financial Advisory (AFA) practice in the West with the appointment of Roger A. Martinez as partner. Martinez is based in Crowe’s Los Angeles office. He joins AFA’s Public Sector Services practice area.
Gumbiner Savett Managing Director Michael Savoy, CPA, has been appointed to the California Board of Accountancy. The CBA’s mission is to protect consumers by ensuring that only qualified licensees practice public accountancy in California in accordance with established professional standards.
David Pullem, CPA, partner at Louis T. Roth & Co. recently earned his Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) designation from the Institute of Certified Construction Industry Financial Professionals, Inc. (ICCIFP).
Marcum LLP recently announced that Janet Bernier will assume the responsibility of managing the firm’s New York City Tax and Business Services division as partner-in-charge. Bernier, who joins the firm as a principal, will oversee a team of 50 tax professionals and is responsible for enhancing the firm’s tax services and ongoing business development.
Jay Hanson, partner and national director of accounting with McGladrey & Pullen, LLP, was recently appointed as a new board member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Hanson will be leaving McGladrey & Pullen once he begins his appointment. Also, McGladrey Alliance recently announced 10 new graduates from the McGladrey Alliance Partner Development Program. The program is designed to develop future CPA firm leaders emphasizing leadership development and business development. The 2011 graduates are: W.
