- Make sure your company stresses the importance of balance. Even your best employees can be prone to burnout. People don’t function well if they are functioning constantly without an occasional break.
- Help employees understand the inner workings of the company. When employees understand what it takes to get all facets of work out the door, they have a greater appreciation for what the company does and can take better ownership of their contribution to the big picture.
- Encourage initiative on the job. If employees feel they have to ask permission to make even the smallest decisions, they will begin to feel hampered and less excited about their work.
- Acknowledge the importance of realistic expectations in an employee’s workload. When an employee is working overtime or skipping lunch to meet high expectations, production is eventually going to go down, as is the morale of the employee.
