AccountingWEB has run several stories over the past few months on compensation methods, ways to hire and retain employees, and other facets of the HR process. Now, a story from USA Today goes into the psychological aspects of some new recruits being paid more than seasoned professionals.
Known as 'Pay Envy,' workers in companies throughout N. America are outraged at the compensation, signing bonuses and other benefits given to some new hires--all attributed to low unemployment and the continuous labor shortage.
In some companies, employees who do the same job have pay differences up to and exceeding $20,000.
At the heart of the issue is someone making more money than someone else. A survey conducted by International Survey Research concluded that the number of employees who believe their pay is as good or better than the pay at other firms has dropped to an all-time low ever since the poll was first conducted in 1995.
