CCH projects 2008 tax rates, standard deduction, and other key tax figures

The indexing of many features of the tax code will bring some relief to taxpayers next year, according to CCH. CCH has released estimated income ranges for each 2008 tax bracket.

Math errors found in Excel 2007

Microsoft has confirmed the existence of a serious bug in Excel 2007 that can cause an incorrect amount to appear in a cell. Programmers at Microsoft are aware of the problem and are working on a fix. No date for a correcting update has been projected yet.

Accounting firms populate Working Mother top 100 list
Working Mother magazine has released its annual list of the top 100 firms for working mothers, and this year, three of the Big Four firms appear in the top 10.

There are times when it's a good thing I'm bald. For example, this week we have a story about Excel and the problems they're having making the numbers add up correctly. I'd certainly be pulling out my hair like the woman in the accompanying picture if only I had some. We can only imagine how many newly bald programmers are roaming the halls of Microsoft, wondering how to fix the latest problem. Let's just hope none of the hairs they yank in exasperation end up in their keyboards, or who knows what type of problems we'll be experiencing with the next Microsoft update. By the way, what's this we're hearing about stealth updates occurring? We're looking into that story.
