"This is a very, very good time for the accounting profession,"
said Elaine Weiss, president and CEO of the Illinois CPA
Society, kicking off the Society's 27th annual Business &
Technology Solutions Show in the opening keynote address.
The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants has
announced the winners of the 2006 Elijah Watt Sells Awards. The
award is presented annually to the 10 candidates earning the
highest cumulative scores on the four sections of the Uniform
CPA Examination. To be considered, these candidates must have
completed testing during the previous calendar year and passed
each exam section on their first attempt.
IBM Corporation and PriceWaterhouseCoopers have together agreed
to pay the United States more than $5.2 million to settle
allegations that the companies solicited and provided improper
payments and other things of value on technology contracts with
government agencies.

This week, AccountingWEB representatives attended the Illinois
CPA Society's Business & Technology Solutions Show in Rosemont,
