Publisher’s Note

Today is the last day for Authorized IRS E-file Providers to send an encrypted Excel spreadsheet file to the IRS, registering their web sites and providing URL information. We're not sure how aggressive the IRS will be in closing down web sites that are not registered, but by not filing the requested spreadsheet, tax preparers are opening themselves up to that possibility. Registering is easy - prepare a quick spreadsheet (we give you a sample), zip up the file and encrypt it (we give you instructions), and e-mail the file to the IRS (we give you the e-mail address). Then send a follow-up e-mail containing the password for the encrypted file. We're looking out for you.
