Something to Think About
The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from
motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton, 1890

SOARING OR COASTING? |
Response to AccountingWEB's Busy Season Promotion has been great!
Below are a few of the comments we have received from entrants so
far.
SOARING COMMENTS:
I make sure I laugh every day! And not just a giggle, but a big,
deep belly laugh! I also remember to be nice to those around
me--because "what goes around, comes around." ~ Robin Philbrick,
Custom Instrumentation Svcs Corp., Centennial, Colorado.
I find that a primal scream at least once a day does wonders to
free the tension in my body. I find this also helps keep your
other workers awake. You do have to be cautious and not let out
this primal scream when there are clients as it does tend to
frighten them. ~ Nancy Bottolfsen, HBE, Lincoln, Nebraska.
I have a picture of my 67 Firebird on the beach as my wallpaper
on my computer. ~ Ron Pratt, Dannible & McKee LLP, Syracuse, New
York.
I say please and thank you. Works wonders! ~ David Wise, Grant
Thornton LLP, Houston, Texas.
COASTING COMMENTS:
Always be out of the office by 5:00 on Friday even if it means
being in at 5:00 AM Saturday. ~ Heather McCray-Germain, Fromholz
Pauuwe & Baker, Flint, Michgan.
I put a picture of the beach on my desktop and bring in CD's of
music that helps remind [me] of the beach and where I'll be
heading after the busy season is over. Any Jimmy Buffet CD is
sure to get me through whatever task is at hand and one day
closer to the end of busy season! ~ Jerry Weisenfeld, WilsonPrice, Montgomery, Alabama.
I bought a bottle of "Miracle Bubbles" and when the stress level
gets really high on some days, I blow bubbles in everyone's
office. This makes them laugh and relieves some of the stress.
Also periodically I pick a "color day" which means I send an
email suggesting a color that everyone should wear the following
day. Usually everyone participates and it's cool to see all of us
dressed in the same color. ~ Shannon DiZoglio, Carr, Riggs &
Ingram, LLC, Panama City, Florida.
I started to bring fresh flower to my office every week. It
started when I suddenly got a big relieve [sic] while looking at
the flowers I got on Valentine's day. I can't be outside during
my busy season, but I can bring some of Spring inside to enjoy.
I also ride my bike for 40 to 60 miles on Sunday, to refresh and
recharge for the rest of the week. I read one buddhist wisdom a
day and smile to the calendar before diving into my deep stack of
files. I guess, keeping yourself in balance mentally, physically,
and spiritually is the key to get you through the "Busy Season".
~ June Nguyen, Pisenti & Brinker LLP, Santa Rosa, California.
