A CONVERSATION WITH...RON EAGLE
Ron Eagle is winding down his professional life with the Information Technology Alliance (ITA). A formal succession plan will be announced in November. In the mean time, however, he still has much to say about technology and its impact, or lack of impact, on accounting firms."I don't see many CPA firms thinking about information technology consulting at all," Eagle says.Noting that IT consulting firms launched by non-CPAs who got their start at CPA firms, Eagle also points out the CPA Firms focused on small and mid-sized businesses have been squeezed out of the IT consulting market. Once it was natural for CPAs to help their clients implement their first accounting software systems. Since almost all firms now have accounting software systems, that market has evaporated. Further, CPA firms are no longer being aggressively recruited as resellers or consultants. Eagle expects some regional accounting firms, such as RSM McGladrey, Plante Moran, BKD and others, to remain dominant in the middle market.
