A study of college-age job applicants by the University of Washington revealed that recruiters gave flatterers higher scores than those who boasted about their skills, experience or accomplishments. Further, the recruiters indicated they believed flatterers would be a potentially good fit at the employer company because they shared the recruiters beliefs and attitudes. Applicants who monitored interviewer reactions and adjusted their behavior and interview strategy accordingly, also scored well.
