HSA TIP: 2007 COMPARABILITY WORKSHEET

HSA Resources, a provider of Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), has released its Employer Comparability Worksheet, revised for 2007. The Worksheet is designed to help employers and advisors understand the rules regarding "comparability" for employer contributions to employee HSAs. Comparability rules apply whenever employers seek to fund employee HSAs outside of a Section 125 cafeteria plan. Essentially, the objective of the government regulation (IRS 26 CFR 54) is to see that similarly situated employees are treated the same.

"Our 2007 Employer Comparability Worksheet [...] provides employers an easier step-by-step method to learn how the rule applies to them - rather than reading and trying to understand the IRS's 45 pages of regulations," HSA Resources co-founder, Whitney Johnson, said in a prepared statement announcing the Worksheet's availability. "The new rule changes the treatment of unionized employees and provides flexibility to make different classes of family insurance coverage."
